Day One: Weather Delay

Cool temps are the best on a Harley
While cruising on down a long highway.
But, add in some rain,
And then it's a pain.
But still better than heat is what I say.

Yep, we had strong storms blowing through southwest Ohio this morning...to the point that we delayed our departure until the most serious ones passed.  We finally hit the road around 10:30.  It was still raining, but not bad at all.  It was cool...maybe 62 degrees.  We flew on down to Louisville, where the rain looked like it was going to stop.  Curt and I  pulled over into a rest area, and started to peel off the rain gear.  But, as it stopped raining, it was getting colder...into the 50's.  I replaced my rain gear with my leathers, including the heavy gloves, chaps, and heavy jacket.  MY KIND OF RIDING!  I'd much rather ride in cool air than when temps are in the 90's.  I was smiling and singing to my tunes all the way down the highway.

It was very nostalgic for me to ride into Cape Girardeau.  I lived here from 1979-1986.  I loved working at the P&G Plant here, and I made some great friends.  Randy Black is one of them.  He stopped by the hotel and drove Curt and me around Cape.  Wow!  Has it changed!

This is Randy and I waiting for our dinner to arrive.  I would normally have said, "This is Randy and me," but he's as big a stickler for proper grammar as I am.
We also drove by the house Carol, Kristin, Matt, and I lived in.  It looks like it's unoccupied.  It still has the driveway on the side (you can't see it in this photo) that I built, along with the chimney to the wood burning stove that my father and I installed.

Our house on Meyer Drive in Cape Girardeau

As we drove to the end of Perryville Road, I asked Randy to allow me to take a pic of this hospital, where my son Matt was born.
Southeast Hospital, where Matt was born.  I think Carol had something to do with it, too.   :)
Tomorrow, on to Tulsa!!

  1. That's so cool to see the old house! I wonder if the "monster who lived under the truck" still hangs around there?!! (LOL)
